Creating a better future for communities through research

Budd Hall and Joanna Ochocka in Ottawa

Jun 15, 2011

This trip was comprised of a series of meetings to discuss community based research in Canada.

First, a meeting was held with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization regarding the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education. Following this meeting, Joanna and Budd presented at a gathering at the home of Ted Jackson and Magda Seydegart, where Joanna discussed insights about CUExpo2011 in the context of the CBR movement. Then they met with the International Development Research Centre and discussed the Global Alliance on Community-Engaged Research (GACER) proposal. Following this meeting, they had discussions at the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada regarding the role of universities for the next 100 years.  This was followed by a visit with Social Sciences and Humanities Research Canada (SSHRC) regarding community based research initiatives.  The trip ended with a meeting with Katherine Graham of Carleton University regarding Community Based Research Canada (CBRC).

It was a wonderful opportunity to share common objectives and plan for the future.
