Jean de Dieu Basabose began working at CCBR in the summer of 2019, as a translator for the project Evaluation Capacity Building for Refugee Resettlement. He then began as the Theron Kramer Intern, and he is now a part-time researcher. Jean co-directed a project for the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative to produce a community sponsorship monitoring and evaluation toolkit. He has worked on various research and evaluation projects conducted by the CCBR to support the effective settlement and integration of refugees in Canada.
Jean has currently worked as a researcher with the FamilyPsycle Lab, an academic program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo. He is interested in using his refugee experience to promote community-based research that fosters and supports the resilience, effective integration and well-being of refugee families. His research interests include peacebuilding, refugee integration, anti-racism and restorative justice. Jean holds a PhD in Public Management from Durban University of Technology (South Africa), a Master’s Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and a BA in Education from the National University of Rwanda.
