Did you know that cyclones in the Indian Ocean are getting more severe as the ocean warms? CCBR Executive Director, Rich Janzen, just returned from a trip to Beira, Mozambique. This city was 90% destroyed by Cyclone Idai in 2019. Rich met with academics and community partners from South Africa, India, Canada, and Mozambique working to equip cities to better prepare for the intensity and frequency of these storms. Led by Dr. Cameron McCordic from the University of Waterloo, this partnership is looking to expand their partnership in pursuit of a Partnership Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). CCBR has been invited into the partnership to assist with this proposal development, including supporting partners in following the principles of community-based research.
