This January, Amanda Brotman joins the Centre for Community Based Research as a new student to advance her skills in participatory research and contribute to meaningful community-based initiatives.
Amanda is a Master of Social Work student from Wilfrid Laurier University, completing a placement with the Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR). She brings a background in mental health education and advocacy, research, and community engagement through her work and volunteering with organizations such as Jack.org, Kids Help Phone, and Boomerang Health (Powered by SickKids). Her experiences include co-facilitating mental health workshops for children and their caregivers, researching the mental health crisis of Canada’s agricultural sector with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), and providing crisis support to youth in need. She also completed an undergraduate honours thesis that explored the relationship between cannabis use and mental health among post-secondary students. Amanda is passionate about equitable and inclusive mental health approaches and committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering collaborative solutions.
In her free time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and friends (including her recently adopted 4-year-old cocker spaniel rescue named Cindy), playing soccer, going plant shopping, and cooking/baking new recipes! My favourite place that I travelled to was Greece!
